Texas King: the long one
At 98 in (8 ft 2 in), the Texas King is 14 in longer than a California King and 18 in longer than a King, but only 80 in wide. It is the size for very tall sleepers (prices and frames on the Texas King bed page). Two things to watch:
- Orientation. Two makers also sell a Texas King turned sideways, 98 in wide and 80 in long. Check which one a listing means.
- Consistency. The four makers we checked all give 80 × 98 in, but at least one oversized-bed guide also quotes a different length on the same page. Measure, don't trust the name.
Wyoming King: the compact square
The Wyoming King is a 7 × 7 ft square: the length of a California King with 12 in more width. Of the three, it needs the smallest room, about 12 × 9.5 ft with comfortable walkways (our calculation), and it is the cheapest. More on the Wyoming King bed page.
Alaskan King: the biggest
At 9 × 9 ft, the Alaskan King bed is 28 in wider and 10 in longer than a Texas King, and 24 in bigger each way than a Wyoming King. It is the size for families who share the bed, and it needs about 14 × 11.5 ft of room. Every measurement: Alaskan King bed size.

What's bigger than an Alaskan King?
Among the sizes most makers list, only one has more surface: the Family Bed XL, 144 × 84 in, with 84 sq ft against 81 for an Alaskan King. It is 36 in wider but 24 in shorter, and it is built for families who sleep side by side (family bed sizes). The 10 ft Family Bed (120 × 80 in) is wider than an Alaskan King but has less surface. Past that, beds are made to measure: one maker we checked lists a bed 144 in square. Above the California King, sizes come from the makers themselves, and the same name does not always mean the same inches, so always check the measurements. The world record bed is in another class altogether, with the surface of 111 Kings.
Which one should you choose?
- Texas King if you are tall and there are two of you.
- Wyoming King if you want more width than a King in a normal-size room, for a couple plus a child or a dog.
- Alaskan King if three or four people share the bed and the room allows it.
Every other oversized size, including the Alberta King and the Family Bed, is on the chart of the biggest bed sizes.
