Build the bed from the mattress up
- Protect: a waterproof protector or a mattress pad made for 108 × 108 in, with a pocket deeper than the mattress.
- Soften: a topper if you want more loft. Add its height before choosing sheets.
- Sheets: a fitted sheet whose pocket clears the mattress plus the topper, and a flat sheet wide enough to tuck in.
- Cover: a comforter, or a duvet insert and cover, larger than the mattress so it hangs over the sides.
How big the top layer should be
One maker lists its Alaskan King comforter at 142 × 126 in: about 17 in of overhang on each side of a 108 × 108 in mattress (our calculation). A bedding maker's rule of thumb (add 12 in to the length and 16 in to the width) gives a smaller 124 × 120 in. The full comparison is in our comforter size chart.
The bed itself
We sell the Alaskan King firm foam mattress, the Alaskan King latex mattress and the Alaskan King platform bed frame. The size itself: Alaskan King bed guide. Every size bigger than a King: biggest bed sizes compared.
