A frame built for length
Most oversized beds grow in both directions. The Texas King grows in length: its mattress is 98 in long, 18 in more than a King and 14 in more than a California King, while its 80 in width adds only 4 in to a King. This frame is designed for tall sleepers, couples and spacious primary bedrooms. Our guide to mattress length for tall people follows mattress brands' sizing advice: add about 6 in to your height. By that rule, a 98 in mattress suits a sleeper up to about 7 ft 8 in, where a California King stops at about 6 ft 6 in.

Why a King or California King frame won't work
A King frame is built for 76 × 80 in: a Texas King mattress is 4 in too wide for it and would hang 18 in past the foot, with nothing under your legs. A California King frame is closer in length, but at 84 in it is still 14 in short, and at 72 in wide it is 8 in too narrow. The extra length is the reason to buy this size, so the frame has to carry all 98 in. One more check: sizes listed the other way round, 98 in wide and 80 in long, exist (see our Texas King bed page). Ours is 80 in wide and 98 in long, like our Texas King mattress.
Slats, box spring and foam mattresses
No box spring goes underneath: the mattress lies on the platform's slats, which are wooden slats reinforced with aluminum. They support most innerspring Texas King-size mattresses
. For foam, a solid surface is needed so the mattress cannot sink between the slats. Our Texas King firm foam mattress is foam: ask us for the board with the frame, and we confirm its price by email before production. Under the frame, 12.5 in of clearance leaves room for flat storage boxes.

Texas, Wyoming or Alaskan King frame?
The same aluminum platform, 16.5 in high, is also made for the Wyoming King and the Alaskan King. By our calculation, with 30 in of walking space on each side and at the foot, the Texas King frame needs an 11.7 ft headboard wall and 11.1 ft of depth. The square Wyoming King bed frame (84 × 84 in) needs a 12 ft wall and 10 ft of depth, but its mattress is 14 in shorter. The Alaskan King bed frame (108 × 108 in) is 10 in longer still, and needs a 14 ft wall. Tall, with a room that is deeper than it is wide? The Texas King gives length without the width. - Measure your narrowest door and stairs against the biggest box.
- Curbside delivery is free; ask us before you order for in-home delivery or assembly.
